When I first started dreaming of a farm, Nigerian Dwarf Goats were at the top of the list. Stories of goat shenanigans and the difficulty of keeping them fenced scared me off of them until 2023, when we trialed wethers to see if the stories were true.
And they were – goats are determined problem solvers! But the joy they bring is unparalleled.
Starting in 2026, the focus is on establishing the dairy herd. I am bringing in 8 ADGA goats with a focus on milk genetics and strong udders. We intend to have dam-raised kids, allowing the goats to express their natural instincts. All goats, including kids, are interacted with multiple times a day, with the intent of a friendly herd.
Happy, healthy, friendly, structurally correct goats are the goal, with an emphasis on milk.
In the future, I hope to participate in linear appraisals to track the progress of the herd.
There is one planned kidding in the summer of 2026 and five planned kiddings in 2027.
